CHAPTER 1 SAMPLE SPACES AND EVENTS
This chapter contains a basic introduction to, and motivation for, the use of probability theory in experimental science. We study the mathematical framework; how to describe experiments, outcomes, events etc. in a formal mathematical way, how to manipulate them in a set theory context, and, crucially to subsequent developments, the concept of mutual exclusivity and partitioning.
